We started Jayhawk Construction because the remodeling industry needed fewer contractors and more builders. Anyone can call themselves a contractor. What our clients across Atlantic and Cape May County actually want is someone who shows up, does the work the right way, and is still there to pick up the phone after the project is finished. That is what we built this company to be.

Our Story

How We Became A Household Name In South Jersey

Jayhawk Construction was founded in 2018 by Justin Ungaro, a lifelong South Jersey resident who grew up watching what separates good construction from bad. After years on job sites learning every part of the trade, he started Jayhawk with one goal: to run a remodeling company the way he always wished the companies he worked for would run.

Since then, we have built kitchens, bathrooms, decks, additions, and full home renovations across Egg Harbor Township, Ocean City, Linwood, Somers Point, Galloway, Avalon, and the rest of our service area. Our office is based at 4095 Tremont Ave Suite A in Egg Harbor Township, right in the middle of the communities we serve. When a homeowner calls us, we are usually on site somewhere within a half hour of their house.

We stayed small on purpose. The contractors who grow too fast are the ones who stop showing up to their own projects, start juggling too many subs, and leave homeowners chasing return phone calls. We keep our project load at a level where Justin is personally involved in every job, and where every homeowner gets the attention their project deserves.

Meet Justin Ungaro

Justin is the guy who shows up to your first meeting, walks your house, scopes your project, manages the job site day to day, and signs off on your final walkthrough. He is not a salesperson handing you off to a project manager you have never met. He is the same person from start to finish.

More than ten years in the trade means he has seen almost everything a South Jersey home can throw at a project, settled foundations, outdated wiring hidden behind finished walls, coastal moisture damage, generations of DIY “fixes” that finally caught up with the house. That experience is why he can give you an honest read on your project during the first walkthrough, and why the surprises that derail other contractors’ jobs rarely derail ours.

When he is not on a job site, Justin is usually with his family or doing something outdoors in South Jersey. This is home for him, which is part of why every project we build is one he would stand behind if his own name were on the mailbox.

Small bump-outs run 3 to 5 months including permits. Mid-size room additions run 6 to 10 months. Second-story additions and full wings run 8 to 14 months. We’ll give you a real schedule at the plans stage, not an optimistic estimate designed to get the job.
